America’s Crisis of Faith by Fei Xiaotong.

In the article Fei states that ruling class had the power to find ways of dealing with crisis, but the masses have come increasingly to feel that they have fallen unwittingly into a situation of believe that their faith are controlled by the others. When we lose faith our strength and hopes are lost and the power to fight is lost too. Fei contradicts the former Presidents speech in that even those who could earn their own living still relied on the welfare to support themselves without dignity. The state of believe should suppress lack of faith within individual for a positive response to be expected from us. Perhaps we can say the feeling of believe can suppress all the negative thoughts including lack of faith in the existing government in solving crisis.

Growing rates of dependence of individuals on others grows heavier and heavier such that many of us feel in their hearts that this society cannot be relied upon for solving crisis. Carter believed that such feeling was natural in the society and he was right to call this feeling of helplessness as the “crisis of faith’’ since it is a doubting of the present cultural. It is upon us to realize that the present crisis has lasted for long and it has gone deep. I don’t come to agree with the Carter’s speech in that the strength of faith can also cloud our judgement that the end with the crisis of faith does violence to our original intention.
