Lack of teen sexual education

Topic: Lack of teen sexual education.

Ethnographic research attempts to
understand the culture or way of life from the point of view of participant
(Greenstein and Davis, 2013). Using this
approach I would need to observe teens within their natural environment.
Possibly in a school setting or after school programs that would allow me to
observe their classrooms or after school activities.
Ward (2005), states that “grounded theory
focuses on understanding how individuals make meaning of their personal
experiences (p.472)”. If this approached is used it would be through an open
table discussion followed by a survey with some open ended questions, allowing
the participants to expound on their personal experiences giving the researcher
a deeper understanding.
Sprenkle & Piercy (2005) state there are
“Two levels of phenomenological inquiry available to a therapist-researcher:
the dialogue within a family about a particular phenomenon, and the dialogue
between the family and therapist-researcher about that phenomenon. The Phenomenology approach is described as a
research approach that is designed to provide deep meaning for the participants
and researchers (Sprenkle & Piercy, 2005).
This approached would be used to address this topic by conducting
interviews with teens and the adults in their lives about sex education.
These methods of research explore the
participants on a deeper level with the idea of having a better understand of
the participants as it applies to the topic.
