Assignment One: Summary of Topic & Interest
In
this assignment, you will construct a 2 -3 page paper that describes your
research topic. Your paper should successfully answer the “So what”
question. Why is your topic a current,
relevant and pressing sociological issue? How will you pursue a critical
analysis of this topic? Your paper
should utilize sound critical thought and it should provide appropriate APA
in-text citations and APA full- reference citations.
Summary of Topic and
Interest
Ø
What topic of social change would you like to
study for your final paper? Take a look
at our book for topic ideas; all topic ideas must clearly relate to
classroom materials.
Ø
Why is this topic relevant to others (e.g.,
families, social groups, countries, the world)?
Ø
How does this topic connect to you personally? Think beyond mere personal interest and do not work to create an argument;
instead, consider how your own ideas and/or experiences influence your
exploration of this topic. Be specific,
using first-person language about the experiences, emotions or ideas that
connect you in a personal way to this topic.
You’ll spend the term on this
topic; make it meaningful to you, too!
Ø
Identify and define at least three concepts and/or
theories from our text that will help you to explore this topic
further. Apply each concept/theory to
your topic and demonstrate how it helps you to examine your social change
topic. This section should comprise at
least one third of your total paper; ground your ideas in these sociological
tools!
Ø
Your paper will be 2-3 pages, double-spaced,
1″ margins, Arial or Times New Roman 11 point font.
Ø
Please note that spelling, grammar and proper
format are included as a gradable category in the grading rubric. Use spell/grammar check and follow
directions!
