Frank, 2014, p.7) Ammi Phillips born 04/24/1788 and died 07/11/1865 ( http://www.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/) Ammi Phillips is known for early Folk Art Portraits. His most notable piece is: “Girl in Red dress with Cat and Dog” which wasfeatured on a U.S postage stamp in 1998. (http://www.thegreatcat.org/) Phillips has painted hundreds of portraits in his lifetime. INTRODUCTION:Folk Artist Ammi Phillips I chose to do this project on Ammi Phillips because his Portraits interestsme. I would like to find out how his Portraits evolved and/or more detailed ashe aged with time. I would like to learn more about the Artist and what inspired him to doportraits. Time Motion- There does not seem to be any motion in thepicture. Color- The use of the Primary Color “Red” draws attention to thefocal point of the portrait. Texture- The figures sleek dress is accompanied withfinely detailed ridges around the cuffs and ankles. Shape- they’re a lot of box like or square shapes throughout the painting. Mass Time Motion Color- The light colors used in the facial portion enhancethe detail of the piece. Are people walking, running, floating, or climbing toward something?
