Film Analysis. Watch The Godfather I and write a paper
based on the assignment attached.(8-10 pages, typed with
a 12 point font, double spaced, 1” margins, cover page, works cited page, and
please number the pages).

Case Study
Questions:
Each case study
must answer the questions below. Each topic answer must be a minimum of ¾ page;
maximum of one page in length. For each answer, give at least two reasons for
your finding.

Summary of the Movie.This should be a short paragraph movie
summary, in your own words.

Describe the family’s dynamic.
Poor? Immigrant? Divorced? Newlywed? Parenting Issues? Marital
Issues? Crisis, etc.

Describe the family structure. Which family in the movie did you
choose? Who are the members of the family? How are the members related to
one another? Traditional Nuclear? Single parent? Dual career?
Cohabitators? Homosexual?

Choose a theory by which you will
increase your understanding of the family. Choose among conflict, consensus (functional), symbolic-interactionist,
or social exchange. Describe your reasons for choosing this theory
(paragraph).

Gender role behavior of the adults. Who are the breadwinners?
Care-givers? Kin-keepers? Who makes family decisions? Who does
maintenance? Is the family traditional or pioneer in gender role? Does
their ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status or region in which they
live play a part in their behavior?

Love and marriage. What style of love (look at the
chapter on history of the family?) does this couple exhibit…list reasons.
What type of relationship is exhibited…any warning signs of divorce, etc.?

Separation/Divorce/Remarriage. Is anyone divorced or separated
(identify). If not, state that the question is not applicable and move on.
If divorce does exist, address the following: 1) does anyone exhibit
correlates of divorce (age, race, education, etc), 2) does anyone suffer
from the stigma of divorce (identify), 3) are they a blended family
(typical?), 4) what problems is your family going through?

Parenting and Socialization. Is your movie family child-free or
have they deferred parenting? How many children (are they adopted,
biological, foster, etc?)? Are the kids needs being met? Are the movie
parents good parents? What problems are they facing? What is the parenting
style?

Education, Work, SES. Does your family face upward or
downward mobility issues? Are they struggling? How does ethnicity,
education, religion, SES influence your family? How does work influence
the family (parent’s job, child’s job?)

Family Struggle and Crisis. What crisis does the family face in
the movie? How well do they handle it? Is this a typical/atypical problem?

Conclusion. Of the theories presented in your book, which
theory best helps you to understand this family and to explain its
behavior? Give reasons. What recommendations would you make to improve
this family? What suggestions would you give to individual family members?
What did you learn from this project?

You will be
writing a paper based on your answers to these questions. Please cite your
sources (however, do not rely heavily on outside sources). Do be sure to
support your answers with examples from the movie. Subheadings are appropriate.
There may be overlap between the various sections, so feel free to combine your
analyses in a thorough manner.
