The Korean War showed the once allied nations of Russia and the United States waging a proxy war
Need help with critical analysis with the attached discussion points regarding the Korean War and whether or not America won the war in Korea. Each discussion point needs at least 150 word response.Discussion point # 1“The Korean War showed the once allied nations of Russia and the United States waging a proxy warthrough Korea. Scars from the war are still evident to this day when one sees the state of the relationshipbetween North and South Korea. The relationship was no different at the time of the Korean War. Whenthe Communist controlled North Korea attempted to unify the country into a communist puppet stateunder the Soviet Union, America was forced to intervene. Though loath to enter yet another war,America had the goal of stopping the spread of Communism no matter the cost, so to war they went. The conflict very much acted as a tug of war, except instead of a rope an entire landmass was atstake. In the end, the war went back and forth until it eventually fell to another stalemate. North andSouth Korea are still separate to this day. In a way, America had succeeded in their goal of stopping thespread of Communism, but at a great cost. Despite this, neither side really won the war since technicallya cease fire was the only thing that stopped the conflict in the end.Victory can be hard to define. On one hand, America had succeeded in their goal of stopping thespread of Communism. On the other hand, America failed to stop the root of the problem, the SovietUnion, therefore victory was not really achieved. I would define victory, at least in the case of the KoreanWar, as purging Communism completely from Korea. By purging Korea of Communism, one could theninstall a democratic form of government. Though this might have ended in another world war, I believe itto have been the only true way of ending the threat of Communism. Admittedly though, this is easiersaid than actually done.”Discussion point #2:“When we look at rather or not the United States won the Korean war or not we have to think of whatwe are asking. World War 2 just came to an end and fifty countries came together to create the UnitedNations in hopes to provide peace where threats of aggression existed including using military force(1).This new aggression would be in the form of what some call the Forgotten War or Korean War. Thecivil war among the Koreans was ever present and divided the country and with the defeat of theJapanese 1945 begin the start of the cold war between the United States and the USSR. Each one ofthese giants came to the defense of the two divided sides of Korea(1). The United States was defendingSouth Korea where the USSR defending North Korea. This bring us back to the question of if America wonthe war. If you consider South Korea as still being a free nation still able to practice Christianity thenAmerica won the war. If you consider the peace treaty was never signed then I would say we lost thebattle. Some would suggest that it was a tie because both sides were able to keep what they startedwith.I contest that with all the lives lost from both sides the whole war was a loss for both sides. Withoutthe support from both giants it may have been a different story. I believe that South Korea would havebeen defeated and not be the free country they are today if not for the American support in the war.”
